Tastes differ, There is no arguing about matters of taste, It tastes like more and not to be forgotten; Have a taste to suite. And I have that.

 

High five; 5 culinary dishes, based on the 5 basic flavors; sweet (zoet), sour (zuur), salty (zout), bitter and umami.

Mixed into a five course dinner. In High Five I combine cooking, photography and design, my greatest passions, fused together in this booklet. I dare say I think I've a taste to suite....

    How cool is it, that cooking? A culinary world has opened up to me for a number of years, which I still marvel at to this day. What an impact that first time culinary dining had on me. I was soon fascinated by the way the plates were laid out. The creativity that just about splashed off the plate, as beautiful as it looked. And with the first bite, it almost melted on your tongue, what an explosion of taste. The smells, the flavors, the colors; everything comes together. How cool would it be to be able to play around with this myself, I thought. 

I myself am an amateur who is in the kitchen, but one who is always interested in 'more'.

Making a pasta, together with my mother in the kitchen, that's where it all started. This was certainly not on a culinary level, but just good old-fashioned. This was still simple, but my enthusiasm was aroused. I want to know everything about this world. 

I accepted the challenge and organized a dinner consisting of five courses with a culinary approach. It was quite successful, but the focus was too much on 'the perfect picture', while a dinner is really about taste experiences. A year later I tried again, but this time taste and presentation had to meet in the middle. I did extensive research into which flavors went together, which strengthened each other and how several elements could become one.

Because if you understand the five flavors, you understand the language of cooking.

During the making of this booklet I have become a little wiser again in the wonderful world of gastronomy. It's exciting to push the boundaries, so that it gives just that tingling on your taste buds that you are looking for. 

 

Cooking is daring to experiment, building up experience and tasting a lot. 

 

 

In High Five I combine cooking and design, my greatest passions, melted together 

in a booklet. I dare say that I think I've a taste to suit....
